The lede
Curiosity, independence, and a long-standing belief that nature often holds answers science is only just beginning to understand.
01 · Origin
An entrepreneur by instinct.
Duncan built and grew businesses across different sectors before botanicals became his primary focus — always guided by a sharp eye for opportunity and the confidence to pursue it. One theme stayed constant: a deep, genuine interest in traditional and natural approaches to health.
Long before plant-based remedies became mainstream, he was drawn to the idea that time-tested botanical formulations could play a meaningful role in modern wellbeing — and that the gap between traditional knowledge and modern analytical discipline was a commercial opportunity, not a contradiction.
02 · The work
Standardising what was fragmented.
In the early 2000s the interest moved from peripheral curiosity to primary focus. He began working closely with partner laboratories and scientists to understand, refine, and standardise natural extracts for commercial use — not to sell supplements, but to bring quality, consistency, and efficacy to a space that was, at the time, structurally fragmented.
Over two decades, that work shaped and brought to market a wide range of standardised extracts now distributed through wholesale and ingredient supply networks worldwide. The ingredients sit behind thousands of finished products.
In his own words
“The work has always been about consistency— taking traditional knowledge and giving it the analytical discipline a modern partner can build with.”

03 · The consolidation
Motark is the consolidation.
Motark Enterprise was incorporated in Hong Kong in 2016 to consolidate that project-by-project work into a single, accountable B2B supply business — long-term origin partnerships, GMP-aligned partner-network operations, licensable IP, and analytical records held to the same standard as the chemistry itself.
The model bridges traditional botanical knowledge and modern supply-chain discipline. The objective is unchanged from the work that preceded it: make well-characterised natural compounds more accessible to the partners who build with them.
Selected milestones
The career, briefly.
- Pre-2000s
Entrepreneur by instinct
Builds and grows businesses across different sectors with a long-standing — and unfashionable, at the time — interest in traditional plant medicine. In parallel, founds Rimba reptile park on Bali.
- 2001
Varanus macraei described
A new species of monitor lizard from the Indonesian island of Batanta is formally described by Böhme & Jacobs and named Varanus macraei — the blue-spotted tree monitor — in his honour. The naming sits in the peer-reviewed taxonomic record.
- Early 2000s
Curiosity becomes the work
Begins working with partner laboratories and scientists to standardise botanical extracts for commercial use.
- 2000s–2010s
Two decades upstream
Helps shape and bring to market a wide range of standardised extracts that move through wholesale and ingredient-supply networks worldwide. Operates almost entirely upstream of the consumer label.
- 2016
Motark Enterprise incorporated
Project-by-project work consolidates into a Hong Kong-incorporated B2B supply business with long-term origin partnerships, GMP-aligned operations, and a licensable IP portfolio.
- Today
The long view, from Europe
Based in Europe with his family. Continues to take a long-term view — in business and in life — toward making well-characterised natural compounds accessible to the partners who build with them.
